Overview

In this role you will lead and advise on safety in design across multidisciplinary project teams to improve design safety and meet CDM 2015 and Building Safety Act 2022 requirements. You will work with designers, engineers, and project managers to develop safe, practical design solutions and provide independent client guidance on safety compliance. The opportunity spans internal delivery and external advisory work, shaping risk management and safety culture across complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Review design-stage risk information and challenge risk profiles
• Collaborate with designers to develop hazard-mitigation strategies
• Gather information for risk profiles and compliance plans (PCI, HSF, BSA)
• Share industry best practices and contribute to knowledge development
• Advise clients on legal CDM responsibilities
• Apply CDM principles to non-standard projects
• Scope issues and develop methodologies for risk resolution
• Deliver safety in design strategies and project-specific approaches
• Possibly support Building Regulations compliance under BSA as Principal Designer
• Prepare compliance reports and documentation per CDM and BSA requirements
• Manage own project deliverables within time and cost constraints

Key requirements

• Proven track record as Safety in Design or CDM professional with hands-on design experience
• Experience with CDM 2015 and Building Safety Act 2022
• Commitment to improving health and safety performance on construction projects
• Experience in transportation, utilities, engineering, operations, or risk management with design process knowledge
• Degree or equivalent in safety, engineering, construction, transportation, or related field (or equivalent qualification)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for professional/client meetings
• Commitment to ongoing professional development, ideally NEBOSH Construction and APS/IIRSM/IOSH membership
