Identity & Access Management (IAM) Engineering Manager

Overview

In this role you will steer the IAM strategy and roadmap, aligning identity and permissions across a scaled engineering landscape. You will lead a hands-on, high-performing team responsible for authentication, authorization, and identity lifecycle, partnering with engineering, security, risk and audit to simplify architecture and strengthen controls. You’ll modernise IAM platforms and drive automation to ensure secure, auditable access across the technology estate. This is a pivotal, cross-functional leadership role with a strong impact on security, usability and operational resilience. You’ll help shape a world-class identity platform at G-Research.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver the IAM strategy and roadmap
• Develop a unified identity and permissions model balancing security, usability and ops
• Define standards for authentication, authorization, privileged access and identity lifecycle
• Design, operate and modernise scalable IAM platforms
• Drive automation across identity lifecycle management and access governance
• Ensure IAM services are secure, reliable, auditable and resilient
• Mentor and develop a high-performing IAM engineering team
• Collaborate with engineering, security, risk and audit to influence technical direction
• Define and track platform health and control maturity metrics
• Build a best-in-class identity control plane with fine-grained access controls

Key requirements

• Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering platforms at scale
• Strong background in IAM, security or platform engineering
• Deep knowledge of authentication, authorization, federation, MFA, RBAC or ABAC, PAM and directory services
• Experience designing and operating enterprise identity platforms
• Strong architectural judgment and transformation leadership
• Familiarity with SAML, OIDC, OAuth2, SCIM and identity governance
• Ability to balance security, usability and operational resilience
• Strong communicator with ability to influence stakeholders
• Ownership, pragmatism and a bias for simplicity, scalability and continuous improvement
