Principal Heritage Consultant – London or Cambridge

Overview

In this role you will lead heritage-related advisory and fieldwork on infrastructure and development projects. You will work within a large Cultural Heritage and Archaeology team to guide historic environment outcomes across the UK and Ireland. You will shape strategies, oversee fieldwork and client engagement, and help expand the team’s offering through business development. The role combines technical leadership with cross-disciplinary collaboration to deliver high-quality, evidence-based guidance. Responsibilities

• Lead fieldwork projects from planning and consent stages and deliver bespoke archaeological strategies
• Monitor and approve the work of WSP-approved fieldwork subcontractors (on-site and in technical reviews of deliverables, including RAMS)
• Prepare competitive tenders and design scope/methodology for archaeological fieldwork per Health and Safety protocols
• Produce or contribute to archaeological desk-based assessments
• Undertake stakeholder, curator, and client liaison
• Promote and diversify the team’s service offering and win work from clients
• Support business development and marketing opportunities
• Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams on heritage-related projects

Key requirements

• Experience in archaeological fieldwork project management (project, financial, and staff)
• Strong knowledge of Ireland archaeology/history and planning processes plus relevant environmental/heritage legislation in Ireland
• Experience in heritage planning, masterplanning, heritage conservation, heritage-led regeneration, recreation and tourism, sustainability masterplanning, placemaking, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and business development
