Qualified Dispenser

Overview

In this part-time Dispenser role, you’ll support the dispensary within a large primary care practice. You will process prescriptions, advise patients, and contribute to a friendly, efficient service across two sites. You’ll work with a team to ensure accurate dispensing, stock control, and compliance with NHS procedures. The role offers variety through a rotating schedule and a chance to impact patient access to medicines. Responsibilities

• Dispense medicines and appliances following SOPs; consult GP when in doubt about item/dose/label
• Endorse prescriptions per NHS requirements
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medicines and legislation
• Complete significant event forms accurately and promptly
• Advise patients to promote compliance
• Forward invoices and dispensary correspondence to practice manager
• Respond to drug alerts and prescription inquiries
• Issue and process prescriptions; manage prescription requests
• Maintain stock control to prevent shortages and wastage
• Store and handle drugs per manufacturer instructions; monitor refrigerated items and records
• Keep clean, organized work surfaces and equipment; maintain dispensing records
• Record prescriptions sent to community pharmacies
• Process email/online prescription requests
• Collect prescription charges and ensure FP10 patient declarations are signed
• Receive and record payments for the Practice
• Provide efficient home delivery service when requested
• Maintain full computerised dispensing records

Key requirements

• NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing (or equivalent)
• Good numeracy and literacy skills
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Experience in a dispensary, pharmacy, or healthcare environment
• Experience handling confidential patient information
• Full driving licence with access to a vehicle
