Mechanical Estimator – Milton Keynes

Overview

In this role you will own mechanical estimates from enquiry to tender submission within a growing contractor, shaping pre-construction outcomes. You’ll work closely with operations, suppliers and delivery teams to produce robust, buildable cost plans for HVAC, heating and plumbing across commercial projects. The position offers impact through value engineering, market awareness and clear commercial reporting, contributing to winning bids and project viability.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of mechanical estimates from enquiry through tender submission
• Review drawings and specifications to create accurate take-offs and cost plans
• Price labour, materials, plant and subcontract packages
• Build relationships with suppliers and secure competitive quotations
• Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions
• Collaborate with project and delivery teams to ensure practical, viable estimates
• Support tender submissions with clear, structured commercial information
• Stay updated on market rates, supplier costs and industry trends

Key requirements

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services or M&E
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, heating, plumbing)
• Experience on commercial construction, refurbishment, fit-out or FM-related projects
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender docs
• Strong commercial awareness with numeracy and analytical skills
• Proactive, able to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
