Chief Engineer (Software/Systems)

Overview

In this role you lead and grow the software, control systems and electrical distribution capability for niche vehicles. You’ll steer a team of engineers to design, validate and deliver safe, reliable systems that meet regulatory and customer needs. You’ll balance product strategy with hands-on system development, aiming to bring new features to market quickly in an agile, production-focused environment. This position centers on safety-critical engineering, electrified drivetrains and cross-functional collaboration to shape the company’s technology roadmap. You will be pivotal in maintaining industry standards compliance while expanding capabilities for complex vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to and help build the Product Portfolio Plan
• Recruit and resource to support delivery in line with plan
• Deliver new products and features with agile responsiveness
• Generate system requirements for vehicle functions
• Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
• Provide leadership to engineering teams and coordinate with stakeholders
• Deliver systems for automotive, off-highway and related product domains

Key requirements

• Knowledge of bringing products to market, productionisation and production release
• People development and ability to motivate a strong, flexible team
• Control systems development toolchain experience
• Functional Safety ISO26262 and Cyber Security ISO21434 expertise
• Understanding of legal requirements for vehicle design
• Experience in Electric vehicles and driveline hardware & software design
• Department planning and budget management responsibility
• Development tools knowledge including MatLab & Simulink
• Member of a recognised engineering institution (e.g. IET, IMechE)
• Agile, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management experience
