Overview

In this Specialist Biomedical Scientist role, you will support Senior and Lead Biomedical Scientists while managing day-to-day workflows in designated laboratory sections. You ensure delivery of a high-quality Cellular Pathology service and supervise teams to maintain efficient operations. You contribute to staff training, governance, and diagnostic support for pathologists. Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical expertise across histology, immunocytochemistry, frozen sections, molecular techniques, and digital pathology to support complex diagnostic workflows
• Lead troubleshooting and address technical/process issues, ensuring service continuity
• Support introduction and validation of new techniques and equipment, contributing to method development and safe implementation
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements (COSHH, risk assessments, hazardous substances handling) and maintain neat, safe work areas
• Undertake designated specialist responsibilities (digital pathology oversight, quality systems, HTA compliance, IT support, immunocytochemistry controls, or special stains governance)
• Contribute to audits, governance, and continuous improvement activities, including handling non-conformities and implementing corrective actions

Key requirements

• HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
• Biomedical Science degree or equivalent
• Completed Specialist Portfolio with relevant histology experience
• Minimum two years post-registration diagnostic pathology experience
• Experience of standard diagnostic methods and active CPD participation
• UK professional registration currently
• Disclosure and Barring Service check suitability
