Associate Town Planner

Overview

As an Associate Town Planner, you will lead planning projects across multiple sectors, guiding multidisciplinary teams from inception to delivery. You will advise clients, grow strong relationships, and help win new work while shaping development pathways. This role sits within a growing Birmingham planning team, contributing to ambitious infrastructure and development pipelines. You will work closely with clients and specialists to deliver high-quality planning outcomes in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Act as Planning Lead on projects across markets and sectors
• Manage planning projects from inception to delivery
• Provide high-quality planning advice to clients and stakeholders
• Support and lead multidisciplinary project teams
• Engage in bid preparation, tender submissions, and framework opportunities
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships
• Support business development and work-winning activities
• Prepare planning reports, submissions and technical documentation
• Collaborate with environmental, engineering, design and other specialists
• Mentor and guide junior planning team members
• Contribute to growth and development of the planning team

Key requirements

• Relevant degree in Town Planning or related discipline
• RTPI membership or working towards chartership
• Strong experience in planning consultancy or related environment
• Experience across strategic planning, planning policy and development management
• Understanding of TCPA, DCO, TWAO or other planning and consenting processes
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessment (advantageous)
• Ability to manage multiple projects to deadlines and budget
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Confidence to provide planning advice and engage with clients
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
• Proactive and commercially minded approach
• Experience supporting business development or client growth (beneficial)
