Oracle Site Reliability Engineer

Overview

In this role you ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of critical systems through automation, incident response, and best practices. You work with cross-functional teams to embed reliability and performance into software delivery, proactively monitor resources, and respond to outages with root-cause analysis. You contribute to a culture of technical excellence by staying current with industry trends and driving operational efficiency. This role offers impact at scale and a clear focus on resilience and service continuity.

Responsibilities

• Ensure availability, performance, and scalability of systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning
• Respond to outages with analysis and prevention measures to avoid recurrence
• Develop automation tools and scripts to reduce manual work and improve resilience
• Monitor and optimize system performance and resource usage, addressing bottlenecks
• Collaborate with development teams to embed reliability, scalability, and performance into SDLC
• Stay informed on technology trends and contribute to technical communities
• Operate within Barclays values and leadership expectations (when applicable)
• Support incident management and production troubleshooting as part of SRE practices

Key requirements

• Oracle Database administration concepts and PL/SQL development
• Ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot multi-layer SQL queries and performance-critical code
• Understanding of Oracle architecture, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and high availability (HA) solutions
• Bash/Shell scripting and Python for automation and operational tasks
• Experience developing automated solutions to improve reliability and reduce manual effort
• Git/Bitbucket for version control
• Jira for Agile delivery, change management, and defect tracking
• CI/CD for database changes
• Exposure to cloud platforms (OCI, AWS, Azure) and modern SRE practices
