Senior Power Systems Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Power Systems Engineer at SSTL, you lead power subsystem design and delivery for spacecraft missions. You will work within cross-disciplinary teams from concept through launch and operation, driving power solutions that meet mission requirements. You’ll own the power subsystem, manage work packages, and interact with customers while shaping technical direction. This role offers cradle-to-grave exposure on space missions and the chance to influence high-impact systems at pace.

Responsibilities

• Act as Power Subsystem Lead and Work Package Manager in Space Projects
• Own the power subsystem and all feeding/receiving interfaces
• Translate spacecraft requirements into the power system design
• Deliver power solutions that align with company processes and verification plans
• Manage requirements, system/subsystem trade-offs, and technical solutions
• Oversee budgets, schedules, risk management, and client interactions for power work packages
• Interface with internal and external customers and produce technical documentation
• Support product development and future mission designs
• Contribute to bids and proposals for new contracts

Key requirements

• At least 3 years in Power System Engineering in a systems/ power electronics role
• Analogue and power electronics analysis, design, build, and test in a system/subsystem context
• Experience with spacecraft equipment such as battery regulators, PDMs, relays, motor drive electronics, DC-DC converters, heater control, batteries, solar panels
• Hands-on design and fault-finding on power electronics/analogue products
• Schematic capture and simulation tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics, OrCAD PSPICE)
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work autonomously
• MS Office and Microsoft Project proficiency
