Civil Engineer

Overview

In this Civil Engineer role, you contribute to water and wastewater schemes from feasibility to construction, within a growing framework with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water. You will shape civil aspects across project lifecycles, ensure designs meet standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, buildable solutions. You’ll influence delivery processes, mentor junior staff, and engage with clients to align on aims. This is a chance to impact environmental infrastructure while advancing toward chartership.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review schemes’ designs to ensure fit-for-purpose and compliant with standards
• Produce and review technical specifications and procurement schedules; assess tender bids
• Challenge client specifications and defend solutions to complex problems
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery with standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools
• Act as technical checker and perform design reviews across teams
• Manage interfaces and integration of civil design with other disciplines; produce documentation
• Seek input from engineers, specialists, clients, and project teams to improve solutions
• Collaborate with commercial, operational, and construction teams to develop safe, practical designs throughout stages
• Supervise and mentor Graduates and Engineers to develop their skills
• Engage with the client to support a one-team approach and build strong relationships
• Conduct site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• Working towards Chartered/Incorporated membership (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience
• Experience with water or wastewater projects (infrastructure or non-infrastructure)
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality outputs in line with design, quality, and safety standards
• Effective communication with team members and stakeholders
• Methodical problem-solving approach
• Proactive and pragmatic mindset
• Able to deliver results within short timeframes, with good time management
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
