Product Consultant (Public Sector)

Overview

As a Product Consultant at Kainos, you will own backlog maturity and drive features from idea to delivery, focusing on MVP value. You’ll lead agile ceremonies, plan workshops, and facilitate stakeholder consensus to support delivery initiatives. You’ll coach and develop team members while managing performance. This role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, client-facing delivery in the UK public sector, and shaping outcomes that align with our people-first culture.

Responsibilities

• Own and refine team backlog from inception to delivery
• Drive MVP thinking and articulate value to team and stakeholders
• Lead agile ceremonies and foster engagement
• Plan and run workshops to build consensus with stakeholders
• Support delivery of initiatives within the Product capability
• Coach and develop junior staff and manage performance
• Elicit functional, technical and non-functional requirements and translate into user stories
• Prioritize backlog and manage dependencies to meet MVP scope
• Build trusted relationships across delivery teams and stakeholders
• Contribute to sales activities and bids when needed

Key requirements

• Experience in bespoke software delivery in an agile, client-facing consulting environment
• UK central government/public sector experience
• Experience across the software development lifecycle from analysis to live operations
• Excellent workshop facilitation and stakeholder management
• Ability to model As-Is and To-Be processes and present to stakeholders
• Proven ability to break down work into deliverables and manage backlog
• Elicit and translate requirements into clear user stories
• Strong prioritization and dependency management skills
• Ability to work within commercial constraints and meet deadlines
• Experience mentoring and developing junior team members
• Strong communication skills including explaining technical concepts to non-technical teams
• Experience contributing to sales activities such as bids or proposals
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and coaching clients
