Lead Power Electronics Engineer

Overview

In this role you drive the future of power systems for Leonardo projects in Edinburgh, acting as a technical and managerial bridge across engineering, projects and PSU CDT. You’ll oversee PSU topology, modelling, and partitioning into LRIs/SRIs/SSRIs, while supporting testing, prototyping and production. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to shape robust power solutions for fielded defence systems. This position offers hands-on design leadership with a clear impact on system performance and lifecycle delivery.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and managerial support to Engineering, Project and CDT management
• Support the Power CDT across full power-system testing, prototyping, verification and production support
• Review System Requirements and partition into Power System Requirements and sub-partitions (LRI/SRI/SSRI)
• Create and review procurement specs, SOWs, circuit and system simulations, white papers, test reports and plans
• Collaborate with EMC and grounding design teams to produce earth/grounding diagrams and EMC plans
• Provide design/domain knowledge to projects, CDTs, suppliers and customers
• Support schematic capture, component selection, de-rating and simulation of power circuitry
• Perform PSU topology analysis and system modelling
• Review energy storage materials and energy conservation approaches

Key requirements

• Experience in design, manufacture, test and integration of PSUs or power systems
• Knowledge of ACDC and/or DCDC switched-mode power supply design
• Control and interface circuitry knowledge
• Familiarity with Mentor Graphics and simulation tools; Simetrix, LTSpice, Matlab preferred
• Fault diagnosis to component level; electrical safety
• Security clearance or eligibility to obtain BPSS/NSV (SC/DV may apply)
