Overview
As a Commercial Property Underwriter, you will own the underwriting of new and renewal commercial property business to drive a profitable portfolio. You’ll partner with brokers to shape underwriting strategy and expand the property risk book, including Commercial and Residential properties. You will assess risk, negotiate terms, and ensure alignment with guidelines and regulatory standards. This role combines analytical risk evaluation with strong broker relationships to support growth and deliver tailored commercial solutions. Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal commercial property business
- Analyze risk, negotiate terms, and contribute to portfolio growth
- Collaborate with brokers to shape and deliver underwriting strategy
- Underwrite both Commercial and Residential Property risks with a broker panel
- Evaluate submissions to determine coverage, terms, and pricing
- Develop and maintain relationships with brokers to support new business and renewals
- Maintain a profitable portfolio aligned with underwriting guidelines and business objectives
- Negotiate complex deals balancing commercial considerations with risk appetite
- Ensure underwriting activity adheres to regulatory standards and internal policies
- Review inspection reports, claims histories, and financial information for risk assessments
Key requirements
- Proven experience in Property or Real Estate underwriting
- Solid understanding of property risks, underwriting principles, and insurance legislation
- Strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Industry qualifications such as the CII or degree in finance, economics, or related field (preferred)
