Mechanical Project Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support the delivery of mechanical and public health building services for major railway stations, acting as a liaison between WSP design teams and main contractors. You will apply your rail-focused site experience to improve buildability, commissioning provisions, and site information gathering. You will work with cross-functional teams to monitor installation progress and address technical risks, contributing to landmark rail projects. Responsibilities

• Provide site-based support for mechanical building services designs on railway projects
• Advise design team on buildability, commissioning, and testing provisions
• Conduct non-intrusive site surveys and facilitate design team site visits
• Attend design, interface, and progress meetings; participate in factory and site acceptance tests
• Monitor installation progress and report technical risks to the design team
• Review technical submittals and contractor proposals; support development of design development notes (DDN) for field changes
• Assist main contractor with inspection for design compliance and with resolution of non-conformances and defects
• Support BWIC and associated site changes/remedial work; assist commissioning and entry into service
• Review as-built documentation and operating/maintenance documentation

Key requirements

• Experience in mechanical building services design and site representation in the rail environment (heating, cooling, water systems, drainage, ventilation)
• Registration with a UK Engineering Institution
• Understanding of Network Rail, Crossrail/HS2 standards; knowledge of LUL/TfL standards useful
• Knowledge of Building Regulations, British standards and relevant industry guidance for mechanical services
• Awareness of health and safety regulations (CDM), Common Safety Method, and HSE guidance
• Experience with project administration processes (technical queries, non-conformance notices, technical submittals) and testing/commissioning processes
• Familiarity with project lifecycle stages (RIBA work stages and BSRIA BG6)
