Senior / Principal Fire Engineer

Overview

In this role you drive the delivery of complex fire engineering design across projects, shaping safe and compliant solutions for transport infrastructure. You will work with cross-functional teams to secure client relationships, win work, and guide technical decisions from inception to completion. You’ll apply advanced modelling and fire safety expertise to resolve design challenges and advance SYSTRA UK&I’s standards. This is a leadership-focused position with a strong emphasis on collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Deliver complex fire engineering designs across projects on time and to a high standard
• Provide high-level fire engineering services and advisory support to clients
• Conduct site visits during construction and prepare technical analyses (CFD modelling, structural fire engineering) using FDS/PyroSim, Pathfinder, SAFIR, B-Risk
• Prepare and review fee proposals; ensure QA and adherence to internal procedures
• Lead and develop the project team, manage budgets, and oversee project inception to completion
• Maintain records to meet quality, service level, and contractual requirements
• Support business development by building client relationships and identifying opportunities
• Stay updated on fire safety standards and contribute to discipline evolution within the business
• Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional development within the team

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in engineering (mechanical, structural, civil or similar)
• Postgraduate fire engineering qualification (certificate, diploma or masters)
• Involvement and recognition with a professional body
• Broad experience and knowledge in a similar role
• Strong knowledge of design and construction principles and standards
• Good communication, tact and diplomacy
