Overview

In this role you will provide actuarial consulting to trustees and employers, applying pragmatic guidance on pensions, investment, de-risking, and regulatory changes. You will work with cross‑functional teams, contribute to valuation work, and help manage client relationships. The role offers pathways toward Scheme or Corporate Actuary and progression to Partner, with hybrid working across offices in the North of England. You’ll tackle complex calculations and support client decisions that shape retirement benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex member calculations and progress to validating more intricate calculations
  • Lead the bulk of actuarial valuation calculations and review client reports and member communications
  • Collaborate with Client Account Managers to define client objectives and requirements
  • Aim to assume Client Account Manager duties for a portfolio of clients and manage related work
  • Attend client meetings and actively contribute to discussions
  • Support diverse client projects and collaborate with corporate team across areas
  • Provide technical consultancy to clients and respond to third-party queries
  • Manage client work allocation, meeting deadlines, and mentor junior team members
  • Design and manage surveys and apply statistical techniques to analyze quantitative data
  • Support development of practice area services and tools (e.g., Experian reviews) and contribute to newsletters/marketing
  • Research new topics and brief the team on technical developments
  • Review colleagues’ work and support training of recent graduates and junior actuaries

Key requirements

  • Actuarial qualifications FIA / FAA or are progressing through exams (part-qualified) and nearing qualification
  • DB pensions experience or solid understanding of pensions basics
  • Good IT and presentation skills
  • 3–4+ years of relevant actuarial experience
  • Strong client-facing and report-writing capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple client projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience with analyzing and interpreting quantitative data
  • Willingness to develop into a client management role and collaborate with senior team members
