Quantity Surveyor Rail – Suffolk

Overview

In this role you will drive commercial performance for a major rail project within a main contractor’s team. You will own cost management, procurement, and cash flow to safeguard commercial position while supporting site teams. You’ll work with cross-functional colleagues to ensure contractual compliance and timely payments. This is a chance to contribute to significant rail infrastructure delivery and polish your leadership in a high-stakes environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage cost with regular forecasting and cost/value reporting to control the project budget
• Lead procurement to maximise profit and ensure timely subcontract awards per policy
• Monitor cash flow and ensure timely payment processing
• Advise, develop and train site team on commercial matters
• Understand project contracts and notices to protect the contractor’s position
• Promote professional standards and best practices across the team
• Monitor and chase main contract payments

Key requirements

• An accredited professional qualification (RICS, CIOB or ICES) or a degree with numerical/technical relevance (advantageous)
• Experience as an Assistant QS or QS
• HND in building/construction, urban/land studies, civil or structural engineering (desirable)
• Degree in QS and relevant experience (desirable)
