IBMz Network Engineer

Overview

In this role you will join a team of technical professionals supporting a large-scale z/OS systemen platform, focusing on mainframe network integrity and data/IP security. You will work on configuring, maintaining, and securing host subsystems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable connectivity and robust security. The role includes 24×7 support responsibilities and opportunities to influence mainframe networking and security practices. This position offers exposure to IBM mainframe networks, modern security protocols, and enterprise-scale IT operations in a global company known for innovation.

Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain integrity and data/IP security of Mainframe host subsystems and products
• Support IBM mainframe networks and transmissions infrastructure within a multi-functional team
• Provide 24×7 on-call support as part of a rotation
• Perform TCPIP Port Reserves (additions, deletions, changes)
• Perform VTAM updates (additions, deletions, changes)
• Manage OSA Adapters in a complex mainframe environment
• Perform VTAM PU/LU updates including Enterprise Extenders
• Implement AT-TLS rules (certificate management)
• Configure and manage IPSEC policies (permit/deny, VPN tunnels)
• Trace, debug and perform error analysis for network issues
• Communicate with technical, applications and operations staff to ensure connectivity and security (including after hours)

Key requirements

• Experience with file transmission products (Connect:Direct or FTP) or equivalent usage experience
• Knowledge of z/OS and z/OS utilities
• Understanding of z/OS networking services, structure, and related software/protocols
• Understanding of network security disciplines (IPSec, TLS/SSL, certificates) and their relation to file transmission
• Experience with problem management from diagnosis to resolution
• Understanding of Change Management process
• Ability to customize/manage secure SNA and TCP/IP networks under z/OS
• Knowledge of mainframe network management tools (NetMaster) and multi-session products (TUBES, Supersession)
• Experience with mainframe printing products
• General z/OS systems programming experience
• Knowledge of System z hardware including OSA-Express network cards
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good communication, teamwork and negotiation skills
• Familiarity with Cisco Network Solutions
• Ability to work to tight deadlines, good organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability
• Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues and customers
• Business awareness and understanding of IT business requirements
• Willingness to stay up to date with new technology
• Understanding of information legislation (Data Protection)
• Experience as a z/OS Systems Specialist in the IT industry
