Senior Engineering Manager

Overview

In this role, you will lead the engineering design delivery for large HV transmission substations and manage multi-disciplinary design teams. You’ll drive design management across tender, FEED, and detailed design stages, ensuring safety, quality, and programme alignment. You’ll collaborate with internal and external designers and OEMs, influencing contract design work and constructability. The position sits at the heart of Murphy’s energy transmission projects, shaping delivery for UK operators and international sites. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to advance sustainable, innovative energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design delivery for HV substation projects (132/275/400kV) and extensions
• Lead design management at tender and Early Contractor Engagement, allocating resources across lifecycle stages
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary design activities across internal/external designers and OEMs
• Fulfil Principal Design Representative role, ensuring CDM 2015 compliance and proper design information management
• Support business unit and group design management process improvements
• Review design packs for technical compliance, quality, and completeness
• Assist project planners with maintaining design aspects of programmes
• Monitor engineering programme issues and liaise with procurement for services/equipment
• Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers on constructability and permanent works
• Oversight of contracts with Design Consultants, including fees, services, schedules, liabilities and warranties

Key requirements

• Experience managing multi-disciplinary design packages on HV power projects
• Electrical engineering education and high voltage project design experience
• Experience as Principal Designer Representative under CDM 2015
• Desirable: delivery of substation projects for UK Transmission Service Operators
• Membership of a UK Engineering institute
