Project Controls Manager – Energy & Renewables

Overview

As a Project Controls Manager in our North West Energy & Natural Resources team, you will lead cross-discipline project controls professionals to deliver robust planning, cost control and risk management for complex nuclear-focused programs. You’ll establish governance, performance baselines and reporting to enable data-driven decisions. Your leadership will drive continuous improvement and ensure delivery to time, cost, and quality targets in a collaborative, high-impact environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-discipline teams to deliver robust project controls services and continuous improvement
• Define and implement project controls approaches across project, programme and portfolio levels for effective decision making
• Establish governance and assurance processes around project controls products
• Adhere to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for control data and deliverables
• Develop breakdown structures and support scope definitions with senior professionals
• Document tailored, integrated project controls approaches (e.g., Project Control System Definition)
• Define scope through exclusions, assumptions, interfaces and dependencies and manage decomposition
• Establish a robust Performance Measurement Baseline and manage change control with the Integrated Project Team
• Collaborate with Supplier Project Controls to integrate and analyse performance data
• Ensure integration of scope, cost, risk and schedule, and provide delivery insight for decisions
• Train and coach client teams on performance and reporting management processes
• Assure quality and integrity of project controls outputs
• Undertake line management and career development
• Interact with Senior Management on Performance Management updates
• Guide use of systems/tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Power BI, Excel) for Performance Management
• Embrace challenges to drive positive change for the client

Key requirements

• Significant experience in Planning, Cost Estimation, Cost Management, Risk Management or Reporting across multiple projects
• Client/operator experience is desirable but not mandatory
• Strong knowledge of project controls software and ability to coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong communication and leadership behaviors; ability to influence, motivate, coach and develop a diverse, inclusive team
• BPSS level security clearance (or ability to obtain)
• Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
• Experience integrating project controls disciplines and assessing team maturity
• Experience with project controls software (Primavera P6, Active Risk Manager, Ecosys)
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Ability to make risk-based decisions with incomplete parameters
• Strong stakeholder management and conflict navigation
• Willingness to work across oil & gas, renewables, nuclear, CCS and hydrogen domains
