Associate – Marine, Trading & Commodities – Bristol – 1-4 PQE

Overview

In this role you will manage a diverse caseload of marine and trade disputes for a range of maritime clients, contributing to high‑value, technically complex matters with international scope. You’ll work closely with partners and specialists to shape case strategy and build relationships with insurers, shipowners and operators. The position offers exposure to maritime litigation, regulatory matters and cross‑jurisdictional disputes within a collaborative team. You will help drive outcomes in both litigious and pre‑litigation contexts while developing your career in the maritime sector.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of marine, shipping and trade disputes including wet shipping, marine liability, and admiralty matters
• Handle litigated and pre‑litigated claims across small claims, fast track and multi‑track
• Advise on collision, unsafe port and marine casualty issues; address occupational disease and goods in transit claims
• Contribute to complex, multi‑jurisdictional disputes with senior lawyers and partners
• Engage with experts, witnesses and counsel to develop case strategy
• Build and maintain relationships with insurers, P&I clubs, shipowners and other maritime clients

Key requirements

• Qualified solicitor with 1–4 years PQE (or equivalent)
• Experience handling catastrophic injury, large loss PI, EL/PL or related insurance litigation
• Exposure to marine/shipping/transport or insurance disputes (advantageous)
• Experience managing litigated and pre‑litigated claims of varying complexity
• Strong technical, analytical and drafting skills
• Excellent attention to detail and case management ability
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
