Overview

In this role you will define and validate sheet metal manufacturing processes within safety, quality, and budget constraints to mature the industrialization at our Burnley site. You will work cross-functionally to ensure process readiness, standards compliance, and cost targets while supporting continuous improvement and Safran’s values of excellence, innovation, and teamwork. You will influence suppliers and front of customers with manufacturing expertise, driving safe and efficient production of nacelle components. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position within a global aerospace leader.

Responsibilities

  • Design and define sheet metal manufacturing processes aligned with cost and specifications
  • Create and validate standard work, quality controls, and inspection methods
  • Recommend and specify plant, equipment, and tooling
  • Prepare routes, BOMs, layouts, tooling requests, and data sheets
  • Ensure targets for quality, cost, and delivery are met
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities (Engineering, Logistics, General Services)
  • Guide internal/external suppliers as process experts
  • Lead validation of new industrial products and processes
  • Represent manufacturing engineering to customers and support the Industrial Programme Manager
  • Oversee risk assessment and escalation related to product and people safety

Key requirements

  • Proven experience in sheet metal manufacturing engineering within the aerospace sector
  • Expert knowledge of titanium, aluminium, and steel aerospace materials and their mechanical properties
  • Understanding of material heat treatment and transformations
  • Background in advanced manufacturing environments
  • Proficiency with MRPII process
  • Understanding of business economics
  • Engineering degree (mechanical, manufacturing, materials) or HND/equivalent experience
  • General aircraft knowledge, ideally including civil aircraft nacelle structures
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, able to analyse and summarize complex issues, proactive and thorough approach
