Commissioning Manager – Data Centre Developer / Construction

Overview

As a Commissioning Manager for data centres, you guide commissioning across a growing portfolio from design through live operation. You will work closely with design, construction, operations and external teams to ensure systems are thoroughly tested and ready for reliable operation. This role blends strategic commissioning leadership with hands-on project delivery across European sites, offering exposure to multiple projects and a clear path toward operational readiness. You will shape commissioning standards and drive continuous improvement in a developer-led environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement commissioning strategies for data centre projects
• Provide input during design and pre-construction to ensure practical, commissionable designs
• Review commissioning programmes, milestones, resources, interfaces and dependencies
• Oversee commissioning activities through final integrated systems testing
• Lead and coordinate FAT, SAT and IST across critical systems
• Review commissioning plans, method statements, ITPs, test scripts and technical docs
• Manage specialist commissioning agents, contractors and vendors
• Identify commissioning risks and resolve technical/programme issues
• Manage defects and punch lists through close-out
• Ensure compliance with standards including ASHRAE and NETA ATS
• Collaborate with Operations for a smooth transition from construction to live environment
• Support O&M documentation, training and operational readiness
• Capture lessons learned and improve commissioning standards across future projects
• Provide input on system resilience, reliability and continuous improvement

Key requirements

• Strong commissioning experience in data centres or mission-critical environments
• Experience on colocation and/or hyperscale data centre projects
• Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services engineering background
• Good understanding of critical MEP infrastructure, BMS and controls
• Experience overseeing complex systems commissioning and integrated testing
• Strong knowledge of FAT, SAT and IST processes
• Experience reviewing designs from a commissioning and operational perspective
• Understanding of full construction lifecycle from design to handover
• Knowledge of international standards, particularly ASHRAE
• Confidence to challenge designs and commissioning approaches
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience
• Professional membership or chartership advantageous but not essential
• Full driving licence and willingness for occasional European travel
• Experience in pharmaceutical/healthcare/major distribution or similar complex MEP environments may be considered with relevant commissioning experience
