As Lawyer for Regulatory & Private Sector Housing, you provide expert legal guidance and representation to support the Council’s enforcement and housing strategies. You will handle a varied caseload, act as a subject expert in regulatory and housing matters, and contribute to committee advising. Expect advocacy in courts and tribunals and opportunities to supervise trainees and legal assistants. The role supports public service objectives, combines legal practice with team collaboration, and offers professional development within a proactive, community-focused council.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation for Council matters in regulatory and housing areas
• Manage a varied caseload and act as subject expert on regulatory/private sector housing issues
• Support enforcement work and the selective licensing scheme
• Advocate in courts and tribunals; advise Council committees as needed
• Supervise Trainee Lawyers and develop Legal Assistants; collaborate with Senior Lawyer/Head of Law
• Work with the team to meet deadlines and targets; contribute to wider service development
