Platform Chapter Lead – Engineering

Overview

As Head of Platform Engineering, you will shape and run the internal developer platform that underpins easyJet’s digital and operational estate. You’ll lead multiple Platform, DevOps and Developer Enablement teams, aligning technical direction with business goals while managing budget and talent. This role is pivotal to delivering reliable, compliant, scalable services during peak travel periods and disruptions. You’ll influence executive decision-making and build a strong engineering culture focused on developer experience and measurable delivery impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead 4–5 Platform, DevOps and Developer Enablement teams through their managers; develop leaders, plan capacity, hire and grow talent.
• Define and drive the roadmap for the Internal Developer Platform and tooling; collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and balance build vs buy decisions.
• Own end-to-end delivery accountability for quality, predictability and pace; surface risks and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage the operating budget and headcount; implement cost-effective tooling and FinOps for cloud spend.
• Enhance developer experience to reduce friction and improve platform adoption using metrics like DORA and feedback.
• Oversee performance, resilience and observability for revenue-critical services; ensure security and compliance (PCI-DSS, GDPR).
• Align platform strategy with business goals and explain trade-offs to an executive audience.

Key requirements

• Proven track record of leading multiple engineering teams at scale (leader of managers/leads).
• Strong cloud-native and modern DevOps background (AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, IaC, observability).
• Engineering depth to converse credibly with engineers (e.g., Java, .NET, Python).
• Excellent communication and ability to influence at executive level; track record of growing engineering leaders.
• Ownership of budget and headcount with commercial judgement to balance cost, speed and risk.
