Research Associate in Mathematics

Overview

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate at King’s College London, you will join a 36-month EPSRC project exploring probabilistic methods in spectral theory, bridging mathematics, physics and number theory. You will work under Professor Igor Wigman to study random fields and spectral phenomena, combining theory with numerical work. This role offers opportunities to publish, present findings, and contribute to shaping research in a dynamic math department. You will collaborate across disciplines to advance understanding of geometric and analytic aspects of randomness in spectra.

Responsibilities

• Research non-local geometry and topology of Gaussian random fields and random Laplace eigenfunctions
• Analyse features of random cusp forms
• Develop probabilistic frameworks to explain spectral phenomena
• Conduct numerical simulations to test theories
• Disseminate results via journals, conferences, seminars and colloquia

Key requirements

• PhD (or near completion) in Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, or closely related field
• Strong background in probability theory, random fields, spectral geometry, analytic number theory, or mathematical physics
• Proven research output with publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
