Managing Quantity Surveyor

Overview

In this role you oversee the commercial performance of the project portfolio within Murphy’s steel erection business, ensuring value for stakeholders. You will lead and develop the commercial team, manage cost reporting and cash flow, and negotiate with subcontractors to optimise risk and value. You’ll shape the commercial strategy for tenders and projects, while supporting training and work-winning activities. This is a high-impact, leadership-focused position in a dynamic, multi-country energy/infra context.

Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial aspects of the project and liaise with stakeholders
• Build and develop the commercial team, set objectives and monitor performance
• Collate, analyse & challenge cost/value reports and forecasts, implement actions
• Negotiate terms with subcontractors/suppliers to balance risk and value
• Design and implement a commercial strategy for portfolios and tenders
• Assist in training Commercial Practitioners and APC development
• Support cash position through WIP control and cash flow improvements
• Identify and advise on insurance-related issues (PI)
• Assist in work-winning duties and client presentations for tenders
• Ensure optimum commercial team performance and monitor margin and forecast accuracy
• Monitor outturn costs monthly via bottom-up costed forecasts

Key requirements

• Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent (preferred)
• Registered with RICS/ICES
• Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and Standard Methods of Measurement
• Ability to make timely, informed decisions
• Capacity to synthesise information and report to senior management
