Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer in Sopra Steria’s Aerospace, Defence and Security sector, you will own the VMware-based infrastructure for a large-scale defence project. You’ll shape the end-to-end vSphere environment, including ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters and hyper-converged storage, with an automation-first mindset. You will work on-site in Farnborough, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient, scalable infrastructure for mission-critical clients. This role offers exposure to DV-cleared work in a high-security context and an opportunity to influence modern virtualization and automation practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage VMware vSphere administration across ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, and resource pools
• Design, deploy, and maintain hyper-converged storage (vSAN) environments
• Automate provisioning and configuration using PowerCLI, templates, and automated workflows

Key requirements

• Deep VMware vSphere administration experience (ESXi, vCenter, clusters, resource pools)
• vSAN design, deployment, and maintenance
• HA/DRS configuration and resilient clustering
• Strong VMware networking knowledge (vSwitches, distributed switches, VLANs, port groups, network segmentation)
• Automation scripting experience (PowerCLI) and templating/automation provisioning
• VDI/vSphere Horizon experience desirable
