Overview

As Commercial Manager, you will lead commercial activities for large utility and civil projects, ensuring accurate financial and contractual positions across the contract lifecycle. You work closely with operational management to optimise the supply chain and direct resources, while guiding a team of quantity surveyors and commercial staff. You drive change management, dispute mitigation, and robust reporting to support project outcomes and cash performance. Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management of supply chain and direct resources on high-volume projects
• Manage a team of quantity surveyors and commercial staff
• Monitor and report cash, revenue, and cost positions across cost centres
• Forecast trends and intervene as needed
• Identify and manage change and the change control process
• Identify potential disputes early and facilitate resolution
• Oversee subcontract accounting, including invoices, WIP, accruals, and cash flow
• Provide accurate management reports and ensure close of contract accounting on completion

Key requirements

• Experience in utility/civil engineering contracting or utility subcontracting
• Previous experience in a commercial leadership role
• Strong problem-solving and proactive risk management abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication with stakeholders at all levels
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Full UK driving licence
• RICS membership desirable but not essential
