Solicitor / Associate – EL/PL and/or Abuse

Overview

In this role you will support a leading Major Injury and Casualty team in Birmingham, handling a range of defendant EL/PL and casualty claims for major insurers. You will draft pleadings, manage court deadlines, and instruct experts while developing strong client relationships. The role blends hands-on litigation with mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to the firm’s client-centric service. This hybrid position offers collaboration with partners and cross-functional teams to drive outcomes at scale.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of Major Injury, Casualty, EL, PL and Large Loss claims for defendant clients
• Draft pleadings and client reports, attend court hearings, and ensure compliance with deadlines
• Conduct liability investigations, gather evidence, and instruct experts
• Build and maintain internal and external relationships to support client needs and firm direction
• Provide guidance and support to junior team members
• Prioritise work and optimise efficiency in line with service level agreements

Key requirements

• 2+ PQE in defendant litigation
• Experience in Employer Liability (EL) and Public Liability (PL) is essential
• Casualty and Large Loss experience required; Industrial Disease or abuse experience advantageous
• Experience handling Major Injury files, either independently or as an assistant
• Commercial environment experience
• Strong communication and client relationship skills
• Ability to work to deadlines and manage conflicting priorities
