Overview
As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you lead the mechanical discipline for data centre projects, guiding design from concept to commissioning. You’ll provide technical leadership across teams, mentor juniors, and manage budgets and resources on complex assignments. This role sits in a collaborative Building Engineering Team, working with global clients to deliver sustainable, innovative data centre solutions. You’ll shape how Arup supports a zero-carbon future through energy-efficient, reliable infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver mechanical work packages on complex data centre projects
- Provide technical leadership and ensure high-quality design outputs
- Communicate effectively with clients and project teams (sketching, drawing, writing)
- Contribute to conceptual design and ongoing design reviews
- Mentor junior team members and support their development
- Manage budgets and resources across projects
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical design with other disciplines
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering with Chartership (CIBSE/IMechE)
- Experience leading complex mechanical engineering projects
- Experience in data centre and/or mission-critical facilities
- Strong communication skills with clients and team members
- Proficiency in design software/tools
