Town Planner

Overview

As a Town Planner, you will support a London-based residential developer in appraising development potential and guiding planning approvals across schemes in London and the Home Counties. You’ll work under the Planning Director, contributing to planning reviews, applications, and strategic land initiatives with cross-functional teams. The role offers varied, residential-led projects, progression in a small but growing team, and opportunities to engage with communities and external consultants. You will travel to sites as required and help shape a growing pipeline of schemes.

Responsibilities

• Assess development potential of sites and provide written/verbal advice to Directors
• Promote or process residential planning applications
• Write thorough planning statements and applications
• Attend committee hearings (where applicable)
• Manage own smaller projects and assist with larger ones
• Coordinate external sub-consultants for applications/appeals
• Support Directors on larger scale projects and strategic land promotion
• Undertake evidence base studies (housing assessments, ELS, infrastructure studies)
• Oversee project management and financial aspects within experience limits
• Engage with community groups and travel to UK sites as needed

Key requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a professional UK Town Planning environment
• Private sector background preferred; commercial awareness essential if coming from local authority
• Experience in appraising development potential and writing planning statements
• Experience promoting/processing residential planning applications
• Some exposure to committee hearings
• Ability to manage small projects and assist with larger ones
• Willingness to travel to sites across the UK
