Research Scientist

Overview

As a Research Scientist at Leonardo in Luton, you will advance early research to turn new concepts into working defence solutions. You will work within a collaborative team to assess design impact, prototype solutions, and contribute to data fusion and sensor processing developments. The role blends office and lab work, with mentoring and rapid skill development to build technical depth. Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to early concept studies on new algorithms for threat detection
• Support development and implementation of data fusion across multiple sensor types
• Develop simulators to support test and validation of processing solutions
• Engage in high-level and low-level design activities to translate concepts into working solutions

Key requirements

• PhD, EngD or relevant research experience
• Experience in theoretical or applied research in academia or business
• Experience collaborating with others within or across groups
• Drive for continuous improvement of skills and knowledge
• Structured/methodical approach to solving large complex problems
• Experience planning, leading, and overseeing technical research tasks
• Understanding of Systems Engineering process
• Coding experience with programming languages; Matlab/Simulink familiarity advantageous
