Overview

As Senior PECS Transport Fleet Manager, you will provide strategic leadership for a nationwide fleet, ensuring safety, compliance and high performance. You will lead a team of Regional Transport Managers and oversee the Prisoner Escort and Custody Services vehicle fleet in a regulated environment. Your focus is on fleet availability, cost control and continuous improvement across operations. This is a chance to shape transport safety and efficiency within a mission‑critical public sector service.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Regional Transport Managers to drive performance and professional growth
• Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence obligations, policies and Road Transport directives
• Oversee fleet maintenance contracts, monitor contractor performance and value for money
• Manage fleet budgets and maintenance expenditure, ensuring cost control and operational efficiency
• Maintain fleet availability targets and operational readiness across the PECS network
• Drive continuous improvement across fleet operations, maintenance practices and transport compliance
• Manage disposal programmes, fleet inventories, and asset registers
• Lead investigations into accidents/incidents and implement lessons learned
• Serve as principal road transport safety advisor across the business
• Develop and maintain transport business continuity plans
• Oversee driver qualification, training and competency management
• Ensure successful audits and high compliance across operating centres

Key requirements

• CPC in Public Service Vehicles
• Experience managing large vehicle fleets in a regulated environment
• Strong knowledge of PSV Operator Licence requirements and UK transport legislation
• Contract management, budget control, and supplier performance management experience
• Excellent leadership with geographically dispersed teams
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving abilities
• Customer-focused approach with commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
