UK Commercial Counsel Public Sector

Overview

In this role you will manage the full legal lifecycle for Elastic’s Public Sector contracts, including Cloud/SaaS and Software Subscription agreements, ensuring UK GDPR compliance. You will partner with Sales, RFP, and cross-functional teams to support procurement and contract negotiations, while advising on regulatory obligations for cloud services in the Public Sector. You’ll collaborate with the UK Legal Director and Security Controller, and help build streamlined, AI-enabled legal workflows to enable compliant dealmaking. This is a globally distributed team focused on responsible growth and legal risk management.

Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end legal lifecycle of Public Sector contracts (Cloud/SaaS, Software Subscription, Professional Services, DPA) including negotiations and ongoing management
• Support Sales & RFP during procurement processes; review ITT/RFP requirements and draft legal responses
• Provide regulatory and compliance guidance related to UK GDPR and data protection for cloud services in the Public Sector
• Collaborate with UK Legal Director, Security Controller, and global Legal Department on project work and ad hoc initiatives
• Stay updated on relevant laws and regulatory developments; advise the business on implications
• Improve and harmonize legal workflows with other departments; explore AI tools and automation opportunities
• Engage with technical and security teams to address cyber/information security obligations (e.g., Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001)
• Balance legal risk with business strategy in a fast-paced environment

Key requirements

• Qualified to practice law in the United Kingdom
• 4+ years’ experience drafting and negotiating technology contracts (Cloud/SaaS, Software Subscription, Professional Services) with Public Sector customers
• Strong knowledge of public procurement law, public law principles, and contract law
• Understanding of cyber and information security obligations in technology contracts; ability to work with technical teams
• Experience with laws in UK, France, Australia, Germany
• Ability to work independently in a demanding, fast-paced setting; comfortable with ambiguity
• Preferred: experience representing high-growth companies and public sector contracting experience (in-house or with government bodies)
