Systems Engineering Lead / Manager

Overview

In this permanent role, you provide senior leadership to deliver innovative defence solutions and oversee the systems engineering lifecycle across multi-disciplinary teams. You drive on-time, on-budget delivery while aligning with stakeholder requirements and governance. You shape complex, potentially regulated systems and navigate resource, risk, and supplier interactions to support mission-critical outcomes. Responsibilities

• Own and lead the agreed engineering scope for delivery across projects of varying size
• Coordinate and monitor activities across multi-disciplinary teams and ensure systematic discipline governance
• Support Program Management in planning and scheduling
• Engage stakeholders to ensure adherence to processes and tailored agreements
• Manage resources and dependencies with discipline leads on recruitment and strategy
• Deliver engineering artefacts to governance level, on budget and on schedule, flagging overspend or delays
• Address resource constraints and propose viable solutions
• Oversee engineering resource allocation and interactions with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Oversee changes by assessing impact, risks, benefits, and costs and achieve stakeholder agreements

Key requirements

• Deep understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and engineering management
• Proven leadership and mentoring with multi-disciplinary teams
• Experience in strategy, planning and design of complex solutions
• Proficient in systems engineering techniques and capability needs quantification
• Ability to identify growth opportunities and use lifecycle tools for management and configuration
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Experience creating value-driven work breakdown structures and external engagements (including travel)
• Hands-on expertise in Defence systems, sensors, communications, and encryption
• Experience delivering regulated solutions within UK Defence/Aerospace industry
