Transport Planner

Overview

In this Transport Planner role you will organise and optimise UK-wide bulk haulage movements for a market-leading logistics business. You will work within a transport team to ensure efficient operations and high levels of customer service while maintaining regulatory compliance. You will plan schedules, monitor driver activity, and coordinate subcontractors to maximise uptime. This is an opportunity to shape transport efficiency in a fast-paced environment and contribute to reliable, compliant freight movements.

Pay / Benefits

• Salary 28,000 – 30,000 per annum

Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule bulk product movements across the UK
• Monitor and manage driver performance and daily activities
• Conduct driver briefings and debriefings as required
• Collate Proofs of Delivery (PODs) and prepare invoicing summaries
• Ensure all transport jobs are entered into the transport management system
• Review routes and optimise vehicle utilisation for efficiency
• Keep customers informed of service failures, delays or issues
• Coordinate subcontractor activity daily
• Act as the main communication link between customers and drivers
• Ensure compliance with Driver Hours Regulations and Working Time Directive
• Investigate service failures and implement corrective actions
• Deliver consistently high levels of customer service

Key requirements

• Previous experience in a Transport Planner, Transport Controller or similar role
• Experience in bulk haulage, tanker, tipper, or general haulage environments (desirable)
• Strong background in fast-paced transport office environments
• Knowledge of UK Drivers’ Hours and Working Time Regulations
• Strong understanding of transport compliance and planning
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Flexible and proactive approach to work
• Good geographical knowledge of the North West and wider UK road network
