Principal Mechanical Engineer

Overview

As Principal Mechanical Program Engineer, you will shape mechanical systems for hyperscale digital infrastructure, leading engineering for product development and standardization. You’ll guide project engineers, support site development, and act as the technical authority across stakeholders. You will drive innovative, modular and scalable cooling and mechanical design that supports cost-effective delivery and reliability. This role offers impact across Europe, Middle East and Africa operations and aligns with a mission to lead sustainable, high-performance data centers.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering input for site selection, planning and test-fit designs to validate business objectives
• Represent Vantage as a technical authority with hyperscale customers, investors, and corporate stakeholders
• Lead mechanical engineering for EMEA Product Requirements, Guidelines and Standards; manage mechanical change requests and evolving liquid cooling and AI requirements
• Develop and update mechanical design standards and specifications for consistency, value engineering, and reliability
• Lead development of standardized OFCI mechanical equipment and support procurement with technical guidance
• Create and evaluate high-value engineering ideas with cost-benefit analysis
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to capture lessons and implement improvements
• Deliver designs using DfMA principles (modular, standardized, prefabricated) for HVAC, cooling, pipework
• Support development of fungible building blocks enabling scalable, repeatable design across projects
• Run CFD studies to assess airflow, heat transfer, and system performance
• Provide technical leadership and training to Project Mechanical Engineers
• Coordinate designs with sustainability, electrical, structural, architectural disciplines
• Ensure interfaces are fully resolved and aligned with client, operations, and construction needs
• Conduct short secondments to project teams to reinforce mechanical delivery

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• 10+ years’ mechanical engineering experience in data center or mission-critical environments
• Experience in EMEA construction markets
• Working knowledge of critical cooling and power infrastructure in data centers
• Knowledge of HVAC control logic and feedback loops
• Strong understanding of data center metrics (pPUE, ASHRAE temperatures)
• Working knowledge of building and fire code standards
• Willingness to travel (approx. once or twice a month, up to 3 days)
