Lead Engineer- Syft

Overview

As a Lead Engineer at Xero, you will shape the technical direction of our Syft UK pod, aligning engineering practices with broader architectural standards. You’ll mentor engineers, drive scalable and secure distributed systems, and champion data‑driven decisions to solve customer problems. You’ll lead incidents, improve testing strategies, and foster a collaborative, ownership‑driven culture. This role offers remote work with hybrid options and opportunities to influence multi‑year product goals.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and transform approaches across design, delivery, deployment, and support
• Mentor and grow engineers to strengthen technical capability
• Drive smaller, safer changes and improve operational visibility
• Reduce single points of knowledge and critical-man dependency
• Lead incident responses and guide quality testing strategies
• Foster cross‑functional collaboration and align designs with architectural standards
• Support continuous improvement through data‑driven decisions and experimentation
• Contribute to the team’s active culture of ownership, feedback, and learning
