Associate Director – Project Controls Defence

Overview

In this role you will support a major Defence programme in Reading by shaping and maintaining project controls processes. You collaborate within an Integrated client Team to ensure a single, accountable approach to planning, cost, and progress across the project lifecycle. You will enable transparency of the critical path, coordinate cross-functional controls activities, and drive end-to-end project controls from design through commissioning. This position offers impact across scheduling, cost analysis, and earned value management in a complex delivery environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Controls Lead and PMs in introducing and implementing controls processes, procedures, and systems
• Lead, coach, and support the Project Controls team
• Ensure visibility, accuracy, and transparency of the project critical path
• Interface with engineering, procurement, commercial, and wider project teams to coordinate controls activities
• Act as the focal point for schedule control, progress definition, and resource allocation recommendations
• Deliver end-to-end project controls management from design through commissioning
• Support schedule management, performance reporting, cost analysis, and earned value management
• Align with partner organisations to ensure consistency across schedules, reporting, and assurance

Key requirements

• HND or equivalent qualification in engineering, construction, quantity surveying, or a related field
• Strong project controls expertise with specialist experience in at least one area: cost control, scheduling, risk management or PMO support
• Strong relationship building skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
• Experience working within complex delivery environments with multiple contractors and diverse stakeholder groups
• Ability to use project controls software and systems (e.g., P6, SAP, PRISM, RiskHive, AM, Power BI)
• Nuclear sector experience (desirable, but not essential)
• Proven experience in project controls or project management within a construction or consultancy environment
• Flexibility to travel as required
• Eligibility to obtain SC clearance, including meeting UK residency requirements
