Director, Head of Transmission

Overview

As Head of Transmission, you will lead Turner & Townsend’s UK and European transmission practice, shaping market leadership in a fast-moving sector. You will align cross-functional teams to deliver complex programmes for operators and clients, while expanding the firm’s share and influence in the energy transmission market. You will translate market opportunities into propositions and ensure delivery excellence that underpins growth. This role offers strategic influence, hands-on leadership, and the chance to impact large-scale infrastructure across Europe.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Transmission team across the UK and Europe, ensuring effective structure and engagement.
• Drive market share growth and establish Turner & Townsend as the go-to adviser for programme, asset, portfolio, and project services in transmission.
• Identify opportunities, develop market propositions, and secure cross-selling opportunities with existing and new clients.
• Deliver financial targets and sustainable growth within target markets.
• Provide clear client leadership, translate requirements into delivery, and assure high-quality service delivery.
• Act as a hands-on leader, setting an example and maintaining visibility within the business.
• Build strong client and cross-functional relationships, fostering a One Business ethos.
• Lead and nurture a capable team appropriate to market opportunities and guide internal teams toward common goals.

Key requirements

• Experience in transmission development and delivery with established relationships with national and international operators.
• Senior leadership experience on large projects or programmes within a professional services environment.
• Proven ability to develop people and lead teams.
• Experience with various procurement methods and contract forms.
• Broad understanding of the electricity value chain from generation to supply.
• Strong understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements and industry trends.
• Experience in business development and building teams; established power industry network.
• Excellent written and oral communication; ability to lead and inspire client confidence.
• Experience as a consultant delivering major capital programmes; track record of growth and improvement for clients.
• Degree in construction and/or engineering; professional memberships desirable.
