Overview

In this Principal Engineer role, you will lead advisory work across renewable energy projects, from solar, wind and storage to grid connections, helping shape sustainable energy solutions. You’ll manage multidisciplinary teams, deliver high-quality technical outputs, and engage clients at senior levels to progress opportunities. You’ll contribute to best practices and thought leadership while mentoring junior engineers. This hybrid London role places you at the heart of Jacobs’ energy transition mission and client‑facing delivery.

Responsibilities

• Technical advisory and modelling, feasibility studies, and life cycle cost analyses across project lifecycles
• Define equipment performance specs and review engineering design inputs
• Lead and contribute to technical reports, proposals, and key task outputs with data integrity
• Oversee project management of multidisciplinary teams and coordinate cross-domain activities
• Engage with clients and stakeholders in meetings and presentations
• Identify and apply technical tools and best practices, staying current with renewables trends
• Develop client relationships, lead progress reviews, and support business development
• Prepare compelling proposals to secure new business opportunities

Key requirements

• Significant engineering experience in renewable generation projects (solar, wind, BESS, etc.)
• Minimum of a relevant engineering degree or higher (Masters/PhD acceptable)
• Membership of or progress towards Chartered status
• Knowledge of UK and Continental Europe renewable markets
• Strong project management and delegation abilities
• Excellent analytical and written/spoken English communication skills
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
• Experience in team leadership and mentoring junior staff
• Willingness to travel between offices and client sites occasionally
