Senior Design Engineer – Composites (CBW)

Overview

You will lead complete design projects for CBW, shaping advanced vehicle components from concept to detail. Collaborate with R&D and production to ensure performance and reliability of cutting-edge automotive systems. Drive fault investigations, design optimization, and mentoring to grow engineering talent. You will advance lightweight, high‑stiffness solutions while promoting smarter design practices. Responsibilities

• Create conceptual and detailed designs for vehicle components and structures.
• Develop lightweight, efficient solutions balancing mass, stiffness and performance.
• Produce supporting structural and functional calculations.
• Collaborate with aerodynamics, vehicle science, electronics, chassis, stress, transmission, R&D, production and external suppliers.
• Write technical procedures and system specifications.
• Lead fault investigations and implement robust fixes.
• Support drawing and assembly checks, and provide Class 5 sign-off with stress engineering.
• Mentor student placements and shape the next generation of engineers.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design efficiency.
• Act as a key contact for project allocation, supplier engagement, and user-acceptance activities.

Key requirements

• Strong understanding of engineering design for composite components and assemblies, aligned with industry standards.
• Excellent CAD skills with experience in vehicle design (Siemens NX preferred).
• Demonstratable project management experience.
• Attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure.
• Proactive, self-motivated mindset with the confidence to lead projects independently.
• Positive, open, team-focused attitude with strong communication and collaboration.
