Overview

In this role you will contribute to delivering process designs for nuclear projects within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll work to tight schedules, collaborating with engineers and non-engineering staff to ensure safety, compliance, and successful project delivery. Your work will span effluent handling, sampling system development, and safety case development in a regulated nuclear environment. This position offers challenging problems, cross-functional collaboration, and the chance to influence nuclear safety and operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a small team of process engineers to meet project schedule and report to the client process lead
  • Provide regular progress updates to Project Management and Engineering Manager
  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline design team across engineering and non-engineering functions
  • Gather information on existing effluent routes and engage with effluent coordinators to define safe discharge limits
  • Assess the current flushing system for a new container type, identify issues, and implement modifications or replacement
  • Develop sampling systems for bulk pond conditions, container sampling, and intermediate locations for activity releases
  • Create radiological, environmental and non-nuclear safety cases for relevant hazards within a regulated environment
  • Ensure designs fit within existing safety cases and present designs at assurance reviews to stakeholders

Key requirements

  • Experience delivering process designs on medium/large-scale projects in a team setting
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines
  • Clear report writing to document findings
  • Ability to work under time and cost constraints
  • Designing/assessing fluidic systems for transferring radioactive liquids and effluents
  • Knowledge of sampling technologies for hazardous liquids and safety assessment techniques (e.g., HAZOP)
  • Producing and checking Basis of Design, Process Description, Feed/Effluent Descriptions, Process Calculations, Process Data Sheets, BoPS
  • Nuclear safety case development and nuclear substantiation
  • Adherence to client processes and approval procedures
