As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead electrical design for data centres and related infrastructure, driving multi-project delivery for UK and international clients. You will shape design packages, coordinate with the BIM team, and ensure technical excellence and conformance to standards. This role sits at the core of COWI’s Data Centre Design capability in Scandinavia and the UK, offering opportunities to influence large-scale, sustainable infrastructure projects. Responsibilities
- Oversee MV/LV power systems design and distribution, including one-line diagrams, load schedules, and cable calculations
- Oversee electrical systems design (fire alarm, security, lighting, lightning protection, earthing)
- Supervise preparation of technical specifications
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, especially BIM, to produce design models and drawings
- Conduct technical reviews of designs, calculations, and specifications for accuracy and alignment with requirements
- Ensure manufacturing, construction, installation, and testing meet functional specs and customer needs
- Participate in project meetings, site surveys and inspections
- Adhere to quality and governance processes
Key requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent
- Recent experience in electrical designs for Data Centres
- Ability to deliver technically sound solutions individually and as a discipline lead
- Experience on large-scale infrastructure design projects
- Experience using Amtech and other digital design tools
- Proficiency with BIM software such as Revit or OpenBuildings Designer
- Knowledge of energy reduction methods, carbon calculations, and sustainable design (low energy)
- Understanding of British and industry standards and regulations
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of CDM2015 health and safety regulations
