Overview

In this role you will manage procurement for multiple high-value construction packages as Sub-Contract Buyer for a major main contractor near Redhill. You will develop procurement strategies, lead sub-contract package development, and drive value through tendering and negotiations. You will collaborate with pre- and post-contract teams across education, healthcare, residential, and commercial sectors. The role includes office work with site visits and offers a tangible impact on project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement project procurement strategy aligned with policies
• Lead development of sub-contract works packages
• Develop and implement tender lists with the supply chain
• Own and maintain the project Procurement Schedule
• Analyze quotations and lead negotiations with sub-contractors and suppliers
• Manage tender evaluation, value engineering opportunities, and recommended procurement routes
• Place sub-contract orders and oversee subcontract execution

Key requirements

• Track record as Sub-Contract Buyer for a reputable main contractor
• Experience procuring general construction sub-contract packages (groundworks, RC frame, curtain walling/cladding, brickwork, scaffolding, M&E, carpentry & joinery, ceilings and partitions)
• Experience on new build and refurbishment projects (education, healthcare, private residential, student accommodation) with values 10–40m
• JCT & NEC experience
• Flexible, agile team player with solution-driven attitude
• Strong negotiation and communication skills and understanding of procurement procedures and contract forms
