Equipment Maintenance Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical maintenance backrground)

Overview

As Equipment Engineer on a continental shift, you will support wafer fabrication and epitaxy tooling, diagnosing faults and performing preventive maintenance to maximise uptime. You’ll work in a high-tech UK fab, handling complex electro-mechanical systems and hazardous materials. You’ll collaborate with process, facilities and IT teams to sustain production in a safety-critical environment. This role offers hands-on problem solving and impact across advanced semiconductor processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide rapid first-line engineering response to minimise tool downtime and production impact
• Repair and diagnose faults; perform preventive maintenance on lithography, etch, PVD, PECVD, and MOVPE reactors
• Manage chemical and specialty gas supply systems in compliance with safety standards
• Support gas delivery, exhaust and abatement systems for epitaxy and PECVD tools
• Manage spare parts inventory to minimise downtime
• Implement preventative maintenance to maximise OEE and uptime
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and document actions/outcomes
• Participate in production/planning meetings to report equipment performance
• Support Site Emergency Response Team participation
• Operate forklifts (training provided)

Key requirements

• Apprenticeship, HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• or minimum of 5 years’ directly relevant electro-mechanical maintenance experience
• Experience in high-reliability environments (aerospace, defence, automotive, pharma, oil & gas, power) is valued
• Direct semiconductor experience is advantageous but not essential

• Team-oriented with strong communication
• Ability to follow detailed procedures with minimal supervision
• Good documentation of procedures, risk assessments, and method statements
• Fault diagnosis across electrical, electronic and mechanical systems
• Working with hazardous gases and chemicals
• Experience with gas delivery, exhaust and abatement systems
