Overview

As a Research Scientist II in the Synthesis Technologies Team of Global Discovery Chemistry at NIBR (Cambridge), you drive the synthesis and purification of pharmaceutically relevant molecules from mg to multi-gram scale. You will apply innovative methods, troubleshoot routes, and collaborate across global teams to advance small-molecule drug discovery. You contribute to safe, efficient methods and structural elucidation within a fast-paced research environment. This role offers the opportunity to influence project outcomes and grow within a mission to discover transformative medicines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct task-oriented synthesis and purification from milligram to multi-gram scale
  • Anticipate synthetic pitfalls and optimize routes/conditions
  • Explore and deploy cutting-edge synthetic methods for building blocks and drug substances
  • Collaborate with internal and external chemistry teams
  • Perform structural and stereochemical elucidation
  • Adhere to laboratory safety policies

Key requirements

  • BS or MS in synthetic organic chemistry with 2–5 years of postgraduate experience
  • Strong working knowledge of synthetic organic methodology and multi-step preparation of drug substances
  • Excellent observational, organizational, data management, and documentation skills
  • Desire for green and sustainable synthesis methods (preferred)
  • Outstanding communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with medicinal chemistry teams
