Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead turbine island design development within the Fusion and Modular Nuclear unit, collaborating with multidisciplinaries and the supply chain to ensure compliant, integrated designs. You will assess supplier deliverables, develop and review process diagrams and specifications, and drive optioneering and systems engineering activities. The position focuses on integrating turbine island solutions into a broader power plant while maintaining safety, licensing, and quality standards. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role with significant impact on project delivery and regulatory conformity.

Responsibilities

• Assess supplier deliverables to ensure alignment with requirements
• Create and review Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, Layout Drawings, sizing calculations, datasheets and specifications
• Lead and review optioneering studies and associated design documentation
• Develop and review Functional and Design Requirements using Systems Engineering
• Integrate Turbine Island design into the wider power plant
• Provide technical support as the interface with stakeholders
• Participate in Design Reviews and HAZID/HAZOP activities
• Collaborate with safety teams on licensing, environmental planning, and related activities
• Ensure compliance with H&S policies, project quality, and QMS

Key requirements

• Experience in nuclear, thermal power, oil and gas, or other regulated sectors
• Experience with steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping
• Strong thermal power background from FEED to detailed design and EPC delivery
• Procurement specifications development and supplier collaboration
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and project management capabilities
• Knowledge of UK H&S regulations, safety systems, HAZOP, and engineering standards
• Knowledge of ASME, European, and UK codes and standards
• Experience or awareness of Systems Engineering is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; professional registration (CEng) or working towards it; SC security clearance or ability to obtain
